Annas Pepparkakor almond thins are a traditional Scandinavian biscuit, with delicate snap and beautiful fluted edges. Pepparkakor biscuits are traditionally eaten at Christmas in Sweden, and decorated versions are commonly hung in windows, or given to friends and family over the celebrations.

However, these almond biscuits are fantastic at any time of year. Serve them with blue cheese after a meal, or enjoy with a cup of tea. They are also delicious with a spoon of lingonberry jam.

Pepparkakor biscuits have a long history in Sweden, and are said to date back to the 14th century, when nuns of the Vadstena monastery first started baking biscuits to aid digestion, decorated with symbols. For many years they were eaten year-round, but more recently have become a part of Christmas celebrations.

A common game is to hold a pepparkakor thin in your palm and press it – if it breaks into three pieces you can make a wish!

Annas Pepparkakor is one of Sweden’s best loved brands, and is synonymous with the nation’s signature thins. Today, the biscuits are made using the same recipe created by company founders – sisters Anna and Emma Karlsson who began baking in their Stockholm kitchen, in 1929.
